Churches located in shop lots in the city will be allowed to change their status from commercial to religious, Federal Territories minister Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor said today.
He said the status cannot revert to commercial use should a church decide to relocate.
"If a church were to relocate its premises, the new owners will not be able to use the premises for anything else but worship,” he said after launching the advisory committee on the Federal Territories non-Muslim houses of worship.
Tengku Adnan (pic) said places of worship would be built in new development areas in the Federal Territories based on their populations.
