'That Bung-le could land him in German jail'

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has condemned a BN lawmaker for hailing Adolf Hitler following Germany's victory over Brazil in the World Cup semi-final.

He said in Germany, those suspected of supporting Nazism or the long-deceased dictator could end up in jail.

Lim added that Kinabatangan MP Bung Mokhtar Radin's Twitter posting on Hitler was an insult and no compliment to the Germans.

He said he had to take Bung to task over this issue because Penang had many German investors.

"If you call them Hitler, they will run away. They consider it an insult. They are one of the biggest investors in Penang," Lim said at a press conference today.

"Ask anyone, they are one of the most peace-loving people in the world, even their constitution is very clear on this.

"So Bung must be condemned for insulting them with this derogatory statement," he added.

Lim was commenting on Bung's controversial tweet this morning, after Germany's 7-1 victory over Brazil, which read: "Well done...Bravo...Long live Hitler".

After coming under intense criticism, the Sabah BN MP, who is no stranger to controversies, claimed that he was only joking.

Wrong impression

Lim added he did not wish for Germany to get the wrong impression that Malaysians shared Bung's views.

He also urged Prime Minister Najib Razak, who is also a football fan, to distance himself from such an insensitive remark, and asked him to rein Bung in.

Lim also chided Bung for implying that his deputy chief minister P Ramasamy is a "toddy drinker".

"He should direct Bung to withdraw (the remark) and apologise to the Germans and Ramasamy. This has shown how low the standard of an Umno MP is," said Lim.

Meanwhile, responding to Bung's tweet, Ramasamy (right) denied being a toddy drinker, adding he was not against it.

"It's a racist joke to say Indians drink toddy," he said.

"I'm not surprised for a BN MP to make this kind of remark. After all, he has a record of racist and discriminatory remarks against non-Muslims and women," he added.

"Come on, football is football. We all enjoy watching it, and if a good team wins, that's it," he stressed.
