Umno MP mocks PKR's 'record length elections'

Umno MP Noh Omar has taken a potshot at PKR for breaking the record for the longest time spent on elections by a political party.

The MP for Tanjong Karang mocked the disarray in PKR - taking over four months to elect its leaders.

Noh then compared this with neighbouring Indonesia, which could elect a president within a shorter period, even with 133  million voters to deal with.

"PKR is a party that is creating history for holding the longest election ever, even surpassing the choosing of an Indonesian president.

"Its elections started earlier and until now, we see no results. All we get is chair-throwing among its members," the Umno leader told party-owned Utusan Malaysia daily.

PKR started nominating its leaders on March 29 but the full election results are only expected in early August, after a re-vote was called for several party branches caused by disputes over the process.

Noh said the recent PKR proposal for its president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail to replace Abdul Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor menteri besar was also another sign that the opposition party was rocked by various controversies.

"(De facto leader) Anwar Ibrahim wants to show that PKR is still in power, that there is harmony among party members. That is why he announced a change in MB, to distract the general attention away from the party's internal issues," he added.
