No one was hurt in the 10.55pm incident and all eight victims managed to climb out of their respective vehicles to safety.
Although the water level was reported to be only about a foot deep, police have decided to close it from all traffic due to safety concerns.
Heavy rain over the weekend caused Sungai Sebungan in nearby Sebauh to rise, forcing some 300 residents of a longhouse nearby to move to higher grounds.
Elsewhere in the state, however, the flood situation is improving with more people leaving the relief centres.
As at noon today, only 835 people from 265 families are still left in eight relief centres – two in Samarahan division, one in Matu district of Mukah, one in Marudi in Miri division and three in Limbang.
Yesterday, there were 1,099 people in relief centres.
The latest centre to close today is at SK Long Panai in Marudi after 80 evacuees from 23 families returned to their mud-laden longhouses.
Meanwhile, Limbang, on the northern part of Sarawak still records the highest number of evacuees staying at relief centres.
A total of 356 people from 117 families are still left in three relief centres; at Dewan Masyarakat Bidang (157 people); the Immigration Department hall at the Tedungan immigration checkpoint (79 people) and SK Menuang (120 people).
There were 460 people at these centres yesterday.
Reports said Kuching division and the coastal area of Simunjan have been declared flood free.
