Earlier, Barisan Nasional (BN) announced Permatang Pauh Umno division secretary Suhaimi Sabudin as its candidate while PKR named its president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail as the party's candidate.
The Permatang Pauh parliamentary by-election was called after its incumbent Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was disqualified as an elected representative after a petition of royal pardon against his imprisonment for sodomy filed by his family was rejected by the Pardons Board.
In the last general election, Anwar defeated Dr Mazlan Ismail from BN with a 11,721 majority-vote.
Permatang Pauh Parliamentary constituency has 71,890 registered voters comprising 71,252 ordinary voters, 627 early voters and 11 absentee voters.
Early voting will be on May 3 at the Seberang Perai Tengah District Police Headquarters' Dewan Gemilang and polling day on May 7 at 25 schools in the constituency.
The Permatang Pauh by-election is the 10th by-election after the last general election was held on May 5, 2013.
