WHAT HAS 'ANAK JANTAN' TO DO WITH IT? 'I'm a man' Khairy denies plotting to oust Najib
Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin denied he was involved in an alleged plot by several of the wing’s members to topple his boss, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
"Saya anak jantan, saya tak perlu machai-machai (I am a man, I do not need any lackeys) to topple anyone," he told reporters, when met at the Permatang Pauh nomination centre in Bukit Mertajam today.
"I am a straightforward person. If ever I wanted to do it (oust Najib), I would do it myself," added the youth and sports minister who was in Permatang Pauh to support BN candidate Suhaimi Sabudin in the May 7 by-election.
Khairy was responding to an article in Umno-linked portal MYKMU.net which accused several Umno Youth members of hatching a plot to topple Najib at a meeting of Johor youth leaders in Rompin.
The minister was asked to probe the matter or stand accused of being involved in the plot.
Asked if the MYKMU.net bloggers were at the nomination centre, Khairy pointed to several men standing with him and they took a snapshot together.
Najib, who is also BN and Umno president, has been facing intense criticisms from former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Ordered to kill'
Mahathir has demanded Najib to reply to questions relating to alleged financial mismanagement of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), where the government-owned investment company is burdened by RM42 billion in debts.
Najib was also asked who ordered the killing of Mongolian national Altantuya Shaaribuu as two of his former bodyguards - Special Action Unit officers Azilah Hadri and Sirul Azhar Umar - had been sentenced to death for her murder.
Sirul, who fled to Australia, is currently detained in an immigration centre in Sydney. Canberra has a policy of not extraditing those who face the death penalty in their home countries.
Sirul has told Malaysiakini he was ordered to kill Altantuya, adding that those who issued the directive were still free.
Mahathir had argued it was unfair to hang Sirul, who incidentally was also part of his security detail when he was prime minister, for carrying out orders given by his superiors. - Mkini
