Former PM Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad says the 60 years of peace and stability enjoyed by the country was because the states and federal governments were under the same party. – The Malaysian Insider pic by Kamal Ariffin, May 18, 2015.Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said that he would ask both Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resign if he had the opportunity to write letters to both of them.
He said this when asked by DAP's Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim during the question and answer session at the launch of a new book featuring letters Dr Mahathir penned to other world leaders during his tenure as PM.
"Simple, I would ask them both to resign," he said to the laughter of hundreds of attendees.
"For over 60 years, we had peace and stability. When you have a different state government from the federal government, it leads to antagonism. It is not doing the country any good," he said.
"Maybe we should get a person who is well versed in history, someone who appreciates what we shared before," he said.
Dr Mahathir said that the leader must believe in the collective development of Malaysians and should not allow one race to "dominate" other races.
"You cannot dominate and disregard other races," Dr Mahathir said.
