Schoolgirl and boyfriend caught in khalwat raid

Form 3 pupil and partner detained in budget hotel at 3am by religious officials

MELAKA: A 15-year-old schoolgirl and her 22-year-old boyfriend were among four couples detained in an operation by Jaim, the Islamic affairs department, early today.

Jaim director Ismail Hamid said the girl, a Form Three pupil from Masjid Tanah, Alor Gajah, and her partner were detained in a room of a budget hotel in Jalan Tun Ali at 2.50 am.

“Jaim will inform her parents and the school authority,” he told reporters here today.

Three other couples, aged between 22 and 34 years, were also caught in the three-hour operation involving two hotels in Kampung Lapan and Malim.

“The couples detained include an Indonesian woman, aged 28, and a Bangladeshi man, aged 34. Both were married with families,” said Ismail.

They were detained for close proximity, an offence punishable by a RM3,000 fine or 24 months jail or both, upon conviction.
