Student beaten to death by senior

The victim was assaulted as a result of disrespecting his senior

KOTA BHARU: A vocational college student in Bachok died after he was believed to have been beaten by a senior student in the college hostel over a misunderstanding.

In the incident at about midnight, the victim, Mohamad Nur Akram Zime, 16, was awoken from sleep by the 17-year-old suspect who later allegedly assaulted him.

Kelantan police chief Mazlan Lazim said the victim was unconscious after being allegedly kicked twice by the senior student.

“The victim was later given cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) before being sent to a health clinic in Bachok where he was pronounced dead at 1.30 am this morning.

“The incident was believed to be due to the victim, who was a junior student, not respecting the senior (suspect) causing the senior to beat him,” he told reporters at the Kelantan police contingent headquarters here, today.

He said a post-mortem found the victim had died of severe injuries on the right of the neck after being hit by a powerful blow.

“The victim’s blood flow to the brain was severed as a result of a fatal kick by the suspect who is believed to have self-defence skills such as silat or tomoi,” he said.

Mazlan said the 17-year-old suspect from Melor here had been detained by police at 12.30 pm.

“We held the suspect after the post-mortem had been completed and we will remand the suspect tomorrow. We consider the case solved following the arrest of the suspect,” he said.

He said the case would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

The remains of victim was laid to rest at Wakaf Berangan cemetery in Pasir Puteh today.
