Will PAS bid for Opposition Leader’s post?

Political analysts say Wan Azizah burdened with too many roles.

KUALA LUMPUR: Political analysts, who previously failed to derail PKR President Wan Azizah Wan Ismail’s march to Permatang Pauh for the 3rd time, are now claiming that the parliamentary Opposition Leader’s post won’t be hers for the taking.
PAS, according to the analysts, would be determined to stop her. The same analysts, polled by various media, don’t say how PAS will manage this without DAP’s support.
“The political dynamics shifted when Wan Azizah failed to become Selangor Menteri Besar despite being nominated by Pakatan Rakyat,” said one analyst.
Shamsul Adabi Mamat, a professor at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, returning to the previous theory of Wan Azizah being burdened with too many roles, thinks that DAP Parliamentary Leader Lim Kit Siang should assume the post of Opposition Leader. “He held that post before.”
Alternatively, he suggests that Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar become Opposition Leader.
Ibrahim Suffian of Merdeka Center, an independent pollster, feels that the Opposition Leader’s post would be a different battle altogether. “The fact is that Wan Azizah is in Parliament.”
“However, the situation with PAS may have not been resolved even with the victory last night. PAS leaders are not so predictable these days.”
Faizal Hazis, a professor at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak’s Department of Politics and International Relations, won’t be surprised if PAS bids for the Opposition Leader’s post. “The dynamics between PKR and PAS has changed.”
He was referring to PKR’s role, under de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim, as the “glue” between PAS and DAP. Anwar, however, is in jail.
Wan Azizah became Permatang Pauh MP in 1999 and remained until 2008.
