Thousands gathered at Stadium Perpaduan in Kuching this morning to express support for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, whom Sarawak Chief Minister Adenan Satem said has done more for the state than Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
According to Bernama, "more than 12,000" supporters were present.
Najib and his wife Rosmah Mansor, accompanied by Adenan, arrived at the stadium at about 10.30am to the thunderous cheer from the crowd and calls of "Hidup Najib" (Long Live Najib).
Besides the large contingent of members of BN component parties who gathered in the middle of the stadium, there were contingents from BN-friendly political parties, namely Teras and UPP, as well, all cheerfully waving the colourful flags of their respective parties.
The Stadium Perpaduan grounds also took on a festive atmosphere with various performances staged from as early as 8am, and several side events.
Thousands of the 'dacing' (BN) flag decorate the surroundings and main roads to the stadium to heighten the atmosphere that looked like a "BN fiesta".
The prime minister and his wife who arrived in Kuching yesterday to attend a dinner function at Dewan DBNA last night, held in conjunction with the Gawai festival, are scheduled to return to the federal capital after the stadium event.
At the dinner last night, Adenan heaped praises on Najib, who has come under pressure from Mahathir to step down.
Calling on Najib not to cave in, the chief minister, however, said the prime minister must resolve the 1MDB quagmire as soon as possible. - M'kini
