Describing it as one of the issues which erodes public confidence, Umno Youth has called for the ongoing probes into the allegations surrounding 1MDB to continue.

"The people need the truth on this issue trough the investigation process being carried out by the special task force, National Audit Department and Public Accounts Committee.

"These institutions must be given the time and freedom to execute their duties without hindrance or provocation from any quarter," read the statement.

Umno Youth also hopes the Cabinet reshuffle would not be exploited to create a rift in the party.

The movement said Umno needs the entire leadership and members to close ranks to face the challenge of the next general election.

Umno Youth also said that it respects the prerogative powers of the prime minister to determine the members of his administration.

"Based on this principle, we respect Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's decision to reshuffle the cabinet," it added.

Umno Youth also hopes the new line-up would further strengthen the government to regain public confidence by proving the trust it shoulders would never be compromised and the interest of the people outweigh other priorities.

As for Muhyiddin Yassin and Shafie Apdal, Umno Youth said although the pair has been dropped as deputy prime minister and regional and rural development minister, the wing would continue to respect them in their roles as Umno deputy president and vice-president.

Both Muhyiddin and Shafie were vocal in criticising the 1MDB issue, which has plunged the Najib administration in a crisis.

After announcing the reshuffle, Najib said while it was a difficult decision, the move was needed to ensure cabinet members were on the same page.

He also said while he welcomes criticism, but this must not be aired in the open.
