The Malaysia Ride Day 2015 programme, which will begin at 8pm on September 11 in Dataran Merdeka, is part of the bureau's campaign to educate Malaysians on how to handle false news and information shared on social media.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who had recently professed that the accusations against him on social media left him "boiling", will officiate the programme, said Help chairman Nazir Hussin Akhtar Hussin.
"Because of libel in social media and all sorts of irresponsible slander, the ties between the races are worsening," Nazir Hussin said at the pre-launching of the programme in PWTC.
"In Whatsapp lately, there was a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) article being spread. WSJ isn't even read in its own country because of its bad track record of publishing false news.
"But in Malaysia, they all spread WSJ's news. And no one wanted to verify it."
He was apparently referencing the WSJ's report that US$700 million (RM2.6 billion) was transferred to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's personal accounts.
Nazir Hussin said their campaign is aimed at educating Malaysians, particularly the youth, on how to evaluate and ensure that the news and information they receive through social media was valid and will not negatively affect the country and interacial harmony.
