1.5 MIL BANGLADESHIS: Money-crazed or low-IQ? Zahid must look at the math, not rely on RHETORIC

1.5 MIL BANGLADESHIS: Money-crazed or low-IQ? Zahid must look at the math, not rely on RHETORIC
It's all in the math. And newly minted Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi doesn't seem to under simple calculations.
There are currently twelve million Malaysians in the work force. Data shows there are 2.3 documented foreign workers and between 4-6 million undocumented migrant workers in the country.
It's highly likely that a more accurate number for workers without documents is six million. If we do the math, there are 8.3 million foreigners working in the country, just shy of 3.7 million Malaysian workers.
Therefore Zahid's assurance that he would not allow foreigners who enter the country seeking job opportunities to outnumber the Malaysian populace doesn't make sense.
As he goes around town trying to convince Malaysians that there is no foreseeable harm in recruiting 1.5 million workers from Bangladesh, Home Ministry's top officials are already making plans with their Bangladeshi counterpart.
Foreign workers are already dominating the local labour market, denying Malaysians of jobs and suppressing wages.
I agree with Tampin Umno leader, Shaziman Mansor, who has urged the government to hire more locals into key sectors of the economy.
Shaziman’s comment is telling given that is the first time an UMNO leader is publicly raising this issue with the Home Affairs Minister who as the Deputy Prime Minister, chairs the Cabinet Committee on Migrant Workers.
The first thing Home Ministry must do is conduct a Labor Market Needs Assessment Study, taking into account skill needs, requirement and gaps, including a projection of employment by industry and sector for the next years.
And until this is done, all negotiations between the government and Dhaka must be stalled.
No other move by the Home Ministry is acceptable.
