After criticising Datuk Seri Najib Razak at party division meetings this month, Umno deputy president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin will take a break, said a source.
Muhyiddin, removed from the Cabinet last month, will attend his last two programmes in Johor today to open the Pontian and Pekan Nanas Umno divisional meetings.
The Malaysian Insider understands that invitations to the two divisions are the last although the party's divisional meetings are only scheduled to end by August 31.
The source also said the Pagoh MP did not receive any invitation from other Umno divisions to officiate their meetings.
"To date, no new invitation to Muhyiddin to launch the meetings," the source added.
Sources said Muhyiddin may be arranging his own strategies during his leave, adding that he had also not made up his mind whether to attend the Umno Supreme Council meeting to be held on August 28, although the notice has not been issued yet.
Muhyiddin has been criticising Najib's administration over troubled state-owned 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), and questioning the prime minister's decision to drop him from the Cabinet due to differences of opinion.
Muhyiddin and Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal was dropped in a Cabinet reshuffle late last month, which many believed was due to their criticism against the state investment vehicle, which has accumulated debts of RM42 billion in six years of operation.
In speeches at the divisional meetings, the duo raised the issue of 1MDB and questioned Najib’s actions.
Najib's move in dropping them from the government shocked Umno, adding on to the party's internal turmoil.
