Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir today proposed that the Umno party elections, which had been scheduled for next year but postponed, be held as originally scheduled.
It would be better for party leaders who were no longer wanted to be removed by party members, than to be ousted by voters in the next general election, he added
"I hope the delegates today will support this proposal. I am saying this because I love the party.
"The situation is tense. Leaders come and go, and even my father (former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) retired.
"I think we should let our members decide who deserves to remain as office bearers in the party," he said before thousands of delegates at the Jerlun Umno division meeting at SM Sains Kubang Pasu in Kedah today.
