Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Shabery Cheek has advised a member of the party's women wing who was recorded in a video clip censuring party president Datuk Seri Najib Razak to be more respectful when criticising leaders.
He said the criticism should be done in a manner in which a person would censure their parents.
"I know many are confused and wish to express themselves through the various forums including at meetings.
"We can criticise but it must be done with respect, like how we would speak to our parents, and not scold the person in front of others.
"Just like how we respect our elders, we should have better manners when censuring them.
"That is my advise to that person".
Shabery also warned former Umno members from coming up with harsh words against the prime minister.
"I also want to advise those who are not happy including Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
"I forbid them from making harsh statements," he added.
Yesterday, a video of a woman who alleged that Najib cheated the people went viral on the social media.
In a high pitched voice, she went all out to state her dissatisfaction at a delegates meeting.
The video that went viral on Facebook has received more than 260,000 views.
Apart from the grassroots, Najib has also been criticised by former Umno leaders, including Dr Mahathir, who has been vocal in speaking out against Najib over debt-ridden state fund 1Malaysia Development Bhd.
