DUMP NAJIB - MCA stalwarts want Liow to make a stand on RM2.6 bil donation, 1MDB debacle

DUMP NAJIB - MCA stalwarts want Liow to make a stand on RM2.6 bil donation, 1MDB debacle
An MCA leader has urged his comrades to stop sleepwalking and pull their heads out of the clouds to address critical issues concerning the people.
Gan Ping Sieu, a former MCA vice-president, said the party can't hold on to its cabinet posts for long if it keeps on being quiet.
"How long can you choose to hide in the office to be a minister? But if you choose to stay in the clouds and be happy, despite the people's hardships, go ahead!" he said.
Speaking at a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today, Gan said party president Liow Tiong Lai (left in photo) needed to make a stand on issues such as the 1MDB probe and the RM2.6 billion donation banked into Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s private accounts.
“What is your stand? Do you want the prime minister to take leave temporarily or do you want him to step down?
"Regardless the former or the latter, at least make your stand clearly. You don’t have a stand at all now. The ‘political sleepwalking’ mode is on," he told reporters.
He said if Liow doesn't have the courage or spirit to speak up, MCA may fade into obscurity despite being BN's second largest component party.
Gan contested and lost the MCA presidency to Liow Tiong Lai in the party's 2013 elections.
Wee: We missed cabinet meetings
During the press conference, Gan listed down various issues related to the 1MDB scandal in which MCA was "politically absent", including the special task force probe, suspension of business publication The Edge, the cabinet reshuffle, and the Public Accounts Committee being paralysed.
“Then, Bersih 4 is coming, the ringgit continues to depreciate and the stock index has been dragged down.
"The most worrying matter is whether foreign investors have started to sell Malaysia’s bonds," he said.
The MCA syariah law and policy implementation special task force chairperson added, the country's troubles have grown from a BN leadership crisis into a national economic and public confidence crisis.
MCA deputy chief Wee Ka Siong, in a Facebook posting yesterday, described Gan's allegations as "baseless".
"The 2.6 billion donation (issue) that was raised by Gan, as former Minister of Rural and Regional Development Shafie Apdal said, was explained by the PM in a cabinet meeting on July 8.
“I was hospitalised at that time, whereas Liow was on an official trip overseas, and both of us were absent from the meeting.
"Thus, Gan's allegation against the party and me, especially (in) criticis(ing) MCA, feigning ignorance, is totally baseless," he wrote.
As part of the administration, MCA cabinet members are not allowed to reveal meeting details to the public, but this does not mean MCA is pretending to be ignorant when it comes to important national issues, he said. - M'kini
