HOW NAJIB WASTES MONEY: Najib buys new jet RM465 MIL, sells old jet RM80 MIL
Putrajaya has finally began the process to sell its 16-year-old Boeing Business Jet (BBJ) and seeks to raise over RM80.5 million from the sale.
This was after Putrajaya defended the purchase of a new Airbus Corporate Jet (ACJ320) in March which cost over RM465 million which it said was to replace the ailing BBJ.
The Defence Ministry in an advertisement in Utusan Malaysia today said the tender process will commence on Aug18.
It said those interested in bidding for the BBJ 737-700 must attend a tender briefing next Tuesday at the RMAF Subang air base.
It added tender documents will be made available on the same day at Wisma Pertahanan. The tender process will end on September 2. Bidding will start at a reserve price of RM80.5 million.
The prime minister usually uses his the Airbus ACJ319 with tail number 9M-NAA but has on some occasions used the BBJ.
The BBJ was last known to be used by Najib when he rushed home after a golfing date with President Barack Obama in Hawaii last year while Malaysia's east coast was devastated by massive flooding.
The aircraft had ferried Najib to Kota Bharu from Hong Kong, after he reportedly took a commercial flight to the city-state from Hawaii.
However, following the purchase of the new ACJ320, which carries the tail number 9M-NAB,the prime minister has been using both luxury aircraft.
Other than these airplanes, other travel aircraft owned by the Malaysian government are a Global Express and Falcon 900. - M'kini
