Make history with anti-Najib vote, Barisan MPs urged

PKR Wanita chief Zuraida urges ruling coalition members to step forward and be counted.

KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional MPs have been challenged to stand up for the sake of their children and grandchildren by supporting a confidence motion against the prime minister, Najib Razak.

The MP for Ampang, Zuraida Kamaruddin, urged them to “step forward and be counted” and not to fear Najib’s power.

By voting against Najib, they would help to make history and be able to walk tall, said Zuraida, who is head of Wanita Keadilan.

She noted that Najib had not given any satisfactory answers in spite of the accusations levelled against him. Instead, he had asked the
people to forget about a RM2.6 billion donation in his personal bank account and to move on.

Zuraida said the prime minister’s name had become associated with “every known financial scandal” in Malaysia, listing the Scorpene submarine purchase; KWAP pensioners’ scheme, Mara kickbacks, misuse of Felda funds, 1Malaysia Development Bhd and most recently the RM2.6 billion cover-up.

“Be brave enough to support a vote of no confidence against Najib,” she urged them. “Do the right thing and future generations will thank you for it.”

Opposition politicians as well as Najib’s fiercest critic, former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, have made various proposals for voting Najib out of office. A simple majority vote of 121 out of 222 members of the Dewan Rakyat in favour of the motion would cause the Najib Cabinet to collapse. The Barisan Nasional commands 134 votes.
