MUHYIDDIN BOMBSHELL: Najib said he would ask AG Gani to clear the air on RM2.6 bil, THEN HE SACKED HIM
Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak told former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail to clear the air on the RM2.6 billion donation, claimed ex-deputy premier Muhyiddin Yassin.
"After the Wall Street Journal expose, we were shocked.
"I texted the prime minister saying this was a serious allegation and that he needed to explain so that no one can make such allegations.
"He replied saying 'thank you' and that he would instruct the then AG to clear the air," Muyiddin said at the Kemaman Umno division annual general meeting today.
He said that was the last he heard about it before Najib summoned him to a meeting and admitted to receiving the RM2.6 billion from an unnamed Middle-Eastern donor.
Abdul Gani had never elaborated about the RM2.6 billion to the public. He was removed from office on July 27 while Muhyiddin was dropped from cabinet a day later.
'I recognised Najib's rights'
Abdul Gani was part of the special task force investigating 1MDB-related matters. The task force includes representatives from the MACC, police and Bank Negara.
Soon after Mohamed Apandi Ali tookover as attorney-general, the task force was disbanded.
Meanwhile, Muhyiddin also reacted to Najib's speech last week, where the latter said that he had never questioned the party on political funding when he was deputy president.
"I know he means I questioned him.
"But I never questioned (Najib either). I recognised his rights as the party president," he said.
According to Muhyiddin, all he has said is that if there is no investigation, it would look bad for the party. - M'kini
