PASIR GUDANG: Prime Minister Najib Razak has expressed his unhappiness at the ongoing attacks on Umno and himself, admitting that he was “boiling inside” whenever he read the comments made by the public on social media.
He said the current political mess in the country was caused by false information and allegations put out by the Opposition’s “keyboard warriors”.
“I was made a target for no reason,” he said.
“Today before anything has really happened, people have begun to flare up for no reason, ‘saya pun rasa mendidih sahaja sepanjang masa’ (this made me boil inside the entire time),” he said when addressing the Pasir Gudang Umno divisional meeting.
Najib slammed the Opposition, saying they were not required to deliver anything of significance to the nation yet chose to spread false allegations about him via their keyboard warriors.
“The opposition doesn’t even need to deliver anything. They just work at clouding the perceptions of the people and creating doubts in their minds, which is enough to erode Umno’s and Barisan Nasional’s (BN) support,” he said.
He also touched on the numerous “unfair” stories about him posted on social media and said, “If you want to talk about losses, there are other companies that have suffered greater losses (than 1Malaysia Development Berhad).”
He cited troubled Malaysia Airlines and said their losses of RM6 billion were far more significant.
While conceding that cyberspace was an important platform, he accused the Opposition’s strategy of using their keyboard warriors as having a detrimental effect on his party and BN.
“The spread of false facts and allegations are at the tip of our fingers,” he said.
“That’s why we need to mobilise a larger number of our own keyboard warriors to counter false allegations and to correct the people’s false perceptions of the government,” he said.
Najib also acknowledged that he needed to deliver more to the people in order to regain their support.
“I admit that we are in a political mess today and I’m not a person who ignores reality.
“I acknowledge that we need to do more in order to regain our supporters’ trust.”
