PETALING JAYA: The past weekend saw quarters from Wanita Umno subjecting Prime Minister Najib Razak to sharp rebukes for his defence of the flow of RM2.6 billion into his personal bank accounts.
At the Langkawi Wanita Umno meeting, a delegate accused him of “urinating on the three million Umno members” for claiming that he had almost unanimous support from the party.
The accusation came in a shrill speech from a delegate named Alina. She said Najib was lying when he said he had the support of three million Umno members.
“To urinate” is a slang term used in some Malay communities to mean “lie” or “cheat”.
“The President has urinated on three million Umno members,” she said. “He needs to be sent for medical treatment.”
It was apparent that the rebuke was also occasioned by Najib’s recent actions against critics from within Umno and by his story about the RM2.6 billion being a donation to the party.
At press time, the video had been watched by nearly 210,000 people and shared by nearly 8,000.
In Pasir Gudang, where Najib opened the annual meeting of the local Umno division, a Wanita Umno member who sits in the divisional committee told reporters she believed Najib should “take a rest” from his positions as Prime Minister and Umno President and cancel his decision to postpone party elections by 18 months.
Norwati Abdul Manaf, who heads the Wanita wing of an Umno branch within Pasir Gudang, held up for photographers a memorandum containing the two recommendations and 10 others.
The memorandum was signed by representatives of 107 party branches and was handed to Najib yesterday.
“If Najib indeed has three milllion party members supporting him, we hope he will allow party elections as soon as possible; there’s no need for a postponement,” Malaysia Gazette quoted Norwati as saying.
“We Umno members have a right to speak up for the good of the party.”
She said 107 party branches did not sign the memorandum out of whim. “Before it was submitted to Najib, it was shown to our boss, (Johor Menteri Besar) Khaled Nordin. He gave the green light.”
