New PAC team can see 1MDB documents in October, says minister

The Barisan Nasional (BN) strategic communications director was reported by New Straits Times saying on air last night that there is evidence that the documents purportedly belonging to the state investment arm were tampered.
He added that the two-months from now to the establishment of the new PAC team will give the authorities time to investigate the matter.
“We are not saying the documents were tampered. It is from Thailand’s authorities. There is merit to postpone the meet so the agencies can re-check,” the housing, local government and urban wellbeing minister was quoted saying during TV3’s "Soal Jawab" programme last night.
Rahman also defended Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s decision to appoint four PAC members to the Cabinet in an abrupt shake-up last week.
He said the four were promoted because they had qualities that can strengthen the administration.
The opposition claimed the appointment of PAC members into the Cabinet was aimed at sabotaging the panel’s investigation on 1MDB.
The committee has yet to call key figures from the debt-laden fund to testify and had scheduled for the hearing to take place in August.
The Najib administration has cast doubt on the authenticity of documents that purport to prove the misappropriation of 1MDB funds as alleged by London-based whistleblower website Sarawak Report (SR).
A little-known organisation had previously posted a video featuring former Sarawakian journalist Lester Melanyi claiming SR founder and editor Clare Rewcastle-Brown was in a plot with the opposition and had fabricated documents to topple the BN government.
The leaked documents were said to be obtained from Xavier Andre Justo, a former executive of PetroSaudi International which purportedly had dealings with 1MDB but were later aborted.
Justo who was arrested and faces blackmail and extortion charges has reportedly admitted to stealing the confidential data to sell to a Malaysian businessman; the Swiss national also claimed he was told of plans to modify the documents as part of a plot to bring down the government.
