At least 10 arrested for defying police orders against holding the #TangkapNajib rally in the city today to demand for the resignation of the prime minister.

IMG-20150801-WA0044KUALA LUMPUR: Amidst heavy police presence, a crowd of about 200 that later swelled to 500 gathered at the main entrance of the Sogo Shopping complex despite a police barricade around the area.
They began demanding that Prime Minister Najib Razak step down over mounting allegations of corruption and misappropriation of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) funds.
Police were ready to come down hard on the rally organisers and participants for defying an earlier warning not to go ahead with it.
PKR Youth Leader Chang Lih Kang told reporters that police had issued a warning for the crowd to disperse, right before he was arrested along with Tan Kar Hing, a Perak state assemblyman.
Moments after, a kerfuffle broke out when a slew of other arrests followed in quick succession.
Several Demi Malaysia leaders, the organisers of the rally, were then seen being walked away by police, both in uniform and plain clothes.
Some youths in the crowd, angered by the police action, which some reported was carried out with brute force, retaliated by lighting loud fire crackers in the midst of the gathered crowd.
Commotion ensued from the fire cracker explosions, and an FMT reporter at the scene sustained a minor leg injury.
The chaos at the scene also caused curious onlookers to gather, leading to massive traffic congestion along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman.
Civil rights lawyer Eric Paulsen and Universiti Malaya law lecturer Azmi Sharom were among those seen at the rally, which consisted mainly of youths and students.
At the time of writing, at least 10 arrests had been made including that of student leader Fahmi Zainol and Aunty Bersih, a senior citizen who has actively participated in past protests and who dared the police to arrest her.
Yesterday, another student leader Adam Adli and Lensa communications officer Shukri Abd Razab, both leading members of Demi Malaysia were arrested outside the Dang Wangi police station.
MORE TO COME…
