Wan Azizah glad Norainee did not suffer same fate as her

Anwar Ibrahim’s wife says that at least Norainee’s husband, Muhyiddin Yassin was not charged with an offence after he was sacked from the Cabinet.

PETALING JAYA: Although Norainee Abdul Rahman went through a tough time when her husband, Muhyiddin Yassin was sacked as deputy prime minister last month, it was a blessing that he was not charged with an offence like Anwar Ibrahim, said Opposition leader Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
She said this when asked by reporters about her long-time friend after the launch of the coffee table book “Reformasi: Perjuangan Diteruskan (1998-2015)” (Reform: The fight goes on) in Puchong last night.
“We used to be in Bakti together. Of course I sympathise with Norainee as an old friend.
Bakti is the Welfare Association of the Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers that Wan Azizah was a member of while her husband Anwar was with the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition.
“Norainee went through tough times (when Muhyiddin was sacked), but at least he is not charged with some offence,” Malaysiakini quoted Wan Azizah saying.
Wan Azizah, who is also the MP for Permatang Pauh, was referring to the charges of corruption and sodomy that followed her husband’s sacking as deputy prime minister in 1998.
She did say however that unlike Norainee, she did not suffer from sleepless nights because she had accepted early on the possibility of her husband being imprisoned.
“Thank God, I have accepted our fate. I can sleep most of the time as I am an ‘okay’ type. Only when the people come to visit us, I get a bit wary, she said, explaining that she always worried visitors would be trying to tap their conversations.
On August 2, while in Kluang, Muhyiddin had said his wife could not sleep well for fear he would be arrested after his sacking although later his replacement Ahmad Zahid Hamidi phoned him personally to tell him it was just a rumour and that the government had no plans to arrest him for any reason.
