starting a movement of the "True Islam only from Quran"

This is addressed to the Muslims but I hope everyone finds an interest in this discussion. I received this comment in an earlier post, straight from the commenters heart. Thank you bro.

Totally Agree, it is not teaching of Al Quran that they are following, it is a deviant teaching, to preserve the powers of the Warlords...

Please do take up my idea of starting a movement of the "True Islam only from Quran" this could be the name of the website, and have a forum where no question is "Haram" (prohibited), respect for others is nurtured and have an intellectual discussion on various seemingly controversial issues affecting the Muslim. 

One example is the issue you mentioned in the article above.... Why muslims are running away from Islamic countries to kafir countries and not migrating into Saudi Arabia. This is a very very valid observation and need more discussion.

You may not know how important is what you are doing, but your are truly clearing the fog that have clouded the minds of Muslim all over the world. It does not matter how big the problem is, the important thing is slowly and steadily you will make more people understand about the true Islam and its Virtues.

Over the past 28 years or so my friends and I have indeed been sharing the message of the Quran. 

Not surprisingly the single biggest resistance and ridicule we have faced is from the Muslims themselves. 

The one liner reason for this is because the vast majority of Muslims have not read and understood the Quran. 

By age 12 many Muslims (like me) would have read the Quran in its entirety in Arabic. Sing song fashion. (I think I did so too.)

It would be another 15 years - when I was 27 years old - when I read the translations. From then on I just went on to research the Quran as a hobby. To find out what it says.

It frightens you because what the Quran says is too often very different from what the religious people say. 

And when you share this information with the Muslims they can become quite agitated. 

They do not seem to fathom the fact that they are getting angry at something from their very own Quran.

Let me give you a quick example. You used the word 'haram' : (where no question is "Haram" (prohibited))

For over a 1000 years "haram" is taken to mean 'prohibited'. 

Well, we also have the Masjidil Haram in Mecca (where that crane collapsed a few days ago.) 

If Masjid is a mosque, then is that the "prohibited mosque"?  No. Obviously the word 'haram' here does not mean prohibited. 

But it is the exact same word.  So the religious folks say 'haram' here means 'sacred' or 'holy'.  "Masjid haram" is taken to mean 'sacred mosque'. 

I would like to just say that 'sacred' and 'holy' are English words.

Here is another use of the word 'haram' in the Quran which may seem beguiling too :

Surah 6:151 

قل تعالوا اتل ما حرم ربكم عليكم الا تشركوا به شيئا وبالوالدين احسانا ولا تقتلوا اولادكم من املاق نحن نرزقكم واياهم ولا تقربوا الفواحش ما ظهر منها وما بطن ولا تقتلوا النفس التي حرم الله الا بالحق ذلكم وصاكم به لعلكم تعقلون

6:151 Say, "Come let me tell you what your Lord has really prohibited for you: You shall not set up associates besides Him. You shall honor your parents. You shall not kill your children from fear of poverty - we provide for you and for them. You shall not commit gross sins, obvious or hidden. You shall not kill - Allah has made life sacred (harrama) - except in the course of justice. These are His commandments to you, that you may understand."

From the verse above, the following are haram for you :

i.    do not set up associates 

ii.   honor your parents

iii.  do not kill your children

iv. do not commit gross sins

v. do not kill except in the course of justice

'Honoring your parents' is a 'haram' as well.

The arabic begins like this  : kul ta'allau atluu maa harrama rabbuka alaikum  :  (Say, "Come let me tell you what your Lord has really prohibited for you..")

Honoring parents is among the 'haram'. 

Again like masjidil haram, it cannot be a prohibition to honor one's parents. 

This will raise another matter. If haram here does NOT mean forbidden then what about the rest of the "haram" above ie setting up associates (mushrik), killing children, committing gross sins and killing people unjustly?  Surely these things are forbidden. 

So it looks like within the same verse (Surah 6:151) the same word haram is used for things that you should NOT do (kill, idolise, kill children) as well as things you should do (honor parents).  (There is a second haram in that verse : Allah has made life 'sacred' or haram).

Read it again. The same word 'haram' is used both for a positive as well as negative actions. 

In my view the proper English meaning for 'haram' should therefore be 'sanctioned'. 

A sanction can both be positive and negative - easily identifiable by the usage and context.

For example 'economic sanctions against Iran' is a negative. Do not trade with Iran.

'The King sanctioned the governor to collect taxes'  is a positive. Taxes can be collected. 

If we read the Quran (translation as well as arabic) we will be able to see things like this. We may understand things better.

When we understand things better, the tendency to become suicide bombers (or to pass judgement on your neighbor, your family members etc) becomes much less.

The first and last step or the only step that is required is that the Muslims must read and understand the meaning of the Quran.

Predictably, there will be resistance from other Muslims. They fear their own Quran. They are afraid that the Quran will destroy the comfort zone of the cocoon the religious people have given them.

The Quran does not seek membership. You cannot create a new "religion" (nauzubillah) or create a new group with leaders, a following etc based on the Quran. The Quran does not need that.

What we can do is to put the Quran into the people, wherever they are and whoever they are.  Let them remain in their places but let them imbibe the Quran. Or its values. 

There is no need to leave where you are and come and join a new group or a new movement, complete with leaders, members, hierarchies etc.

The first step, the last step, the only step for Muslims is just read the Quran and understand it.  You will be "saved".
