Victim was assaulted after she was accused of having an affair with the fiance of one of the suspects.
KOTA BARU: Three women in their 20s were arrested on Monday for allegedly beating up a woman after the video of the incident went viral on social media.
Kota Baru police chief ACP Rohaimi Md Isa said the main suspect, a 27-year-old who sells cosmetic products online, was arrested in Padang Tembak, Pengkalan Chepa, here.
“The other two, in their 20s, who recorded the video were arrested at about 3am and 4am on Monday in Padang Tembak and Wakaf Mek Zainab here.
“We are hunting for two more suspects in their 20s, to assist in the investigations,” he said at his office at the Kota Baru district police headquarters here.
Rohaimi said the incident took place on Oct 15, but came to light after it went viral on Facebook yesterday.
“It is believed that the victim went to the area to meet a friend but was beaten up due to a misunderstanding after one of the suspects accused the victim of having an affair with her fiance, while the other suspect accused the victim of seducing her ex-husband and stealing her gold chain.
“The victim is believed to have been beaten with a steering lock and lodged a police report on the same day of the incident,” he said.
He said the case was being investigated under Section 334 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt.
“The three suspects have been remanded for three days, starting Monday,” he said.
