PAS is non-committal over whether it will back a no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, said party president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang despite previous signs PAS would back it.
“We will wait and see whether there is a need (to support it),” said Hadi when asked about the motion submitted by PKR lawmaker Hee Loy Sian when Parliament reconvenes tomorrow.
Hadi’s non-committal stance is different from other party leaders, such as secretary-general Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan.
“We will wait for this matter when it is tabled in Parliament. We will rely on our opposition leader, Dr Wan Azizah, to make our decision. We will see first. The vote of no-confidence is a part of Parliament’s procedure and we support the vote.”
Hadi had on July 31 said that PAS would not support any motion of no-confidence against Najib.
This was after the end of opposition pact Pakatan Rakyat following irreconcilable differences between PAS and DAP.
The two disagreed over PAS’s desire to enforce the Shariah criminal code in Kelantan and the DAP’s struggle for local council elections.
It was reported today that Hee’s motion is the 25th item in the line-up for debate.
Hee, who is Petaling Jaya Selatan MP, listed several reasons for initiating the motion, including the RM2.6 billion Najib had received in his personal accounts.
The motion will be likely backed by lawmakers from PKR, DAP and Parti Amanah Negara.
Najib’s supporter-turned-critic, former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, had also urged Barisan Nasional lawmakers to throw their support behind the no-confidence motion.
