WOMAN LECTURER IN 'SHORT DRESS' FORCED TO COVER LEGS AT 'PALACE OF JUSTICE'

PUTRAJAYA - A university lecturer kicked up a fuss after being disallowed into the Palace of Justice here today for wearing a dress which was above the knees.
This, despite, a sign barring those in short skirts from entering the premises.
The lecturer from Universiti Malaya, who declined to be named, was clad in a white dress that revealed her knees.
At the main entrance of the palace, the lecturer was seen arguing with auxiliary policemen manning the X-ray machine and metal detector security screening booth this morning.
She contended that the dress code across all government buildings was inconsistent.
However, the sentry policemen were adamant not to allow her into the court.
The lecturer had come to support her colleague, Dr Azmi Sharom’s battle against the Sedition Act 1948 at the Federal Court.
She was accompanied by Teratai assemblyman Tiew Way Keng.
Tiew, however, believed that the lecturer was appropriately dressed and she would send a letter to a ministry over the incident.
The lecturer was finally allowed into the building after she wrapped a scarf around her waist.
This is not the first time this year “inappropriate dressing” made headlines.
In June, a reporter from the New Straits Times and a resident attending the handing of a memorandum at Selangor State Secretariat building were denied entry because their dresses were said to be “too short”.
The duo were told to wear sarong to cover their legs.
Prior to that, also in June, a woman — clad in a white-and-pink top and a red skirt — said she was forced to put on a sarong or she would not be allowed to enter a Road Transport Department building. - Therakyatpost
