The lane is dedicated for stalled vehicles and not for other activities, says Terengganu police chief.
KUALA TERENGGANU: Terengganu police chief Rosli Ab Rahman said the reading of the ‘Yasin’ by school students in the emergency lane of the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) is against the law.
He said although they meant well, the organisers should have picked a strategic location such as nearby rest and recreation (R&R) areas.
“Those who want to read ‘Yasin’ and perform ‘solat hajat’ must follow procedures by getting the permission of the Malaysian Highway Authority.
“The emergency lane is only for stalled vehicles,” he said when commenting on the reading of the ‘Yassin’ by students on LPT 2 on Saturday.
Rosli reminded the public to refrain from conducting activities at roads which endanger lives.
The image of a bus stopping in the emergency lane of LPT 2 and students of a religious school reading ‘Yasin’ had gone viral on the social media.
