KL police chief clears air over notice sent to Azmin's son

Kuala Lumpur police chief Tajuddin Md Isa has cleared the air over the notice sent to Mohamed Azmin Ali's son ordering him to go to the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 10am today.

Tajuddin said police had initially contacted the Selangor menteri besar's 15-year-old son in July via telephone, requesting him to come forward to give his statement in regard to investigations into the Bersih rally.

"We did it that way as we didn't want to create any fuss. But after three months he had still not come forward, forcing police to issue the notice under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

"Police had actually given him ample time; in fact he could have come forward before the notice was issued," he said when asked to comment on a twitter status by Azmin who is also PKR deputy president.

Tajuddin was met after the handing over of disaster management responsibilities between the Kuala Lumpur Federal Territory National Security Council and the KL FT Civil Defence Department in Putrajaya today.

Yesterday, Azmin said through twitter that his son had been summoned by police to have his statement taken for alleged involvement in the Bersih rally at a time when he had to sit for his final examination papers.

He also said his son would only give his statement to the police after completing the examination which began today and ends on Friday.

Tajuddin felt the examination was a mere excuse and purposely highlighted to paint a negative picture of the police.
