Time for Kepong MP to retire so that he can watch TV

YOURSAY | ‘Voters should ‘sack’ him in GE14 if DAP puts him as a candidate.’
Yellowhero: Kepong MP Tan Seng Giaw has been an MP for eight terms since 1982.
He is an "old horse" and not a rookie parliamentarian. It is inexcusable for him to come up with such a pathetic and ridiculous reason (that he missed the Budget 2016 vote as he was watching TV).
It looks like he does not have the fire and passion anymore and takes his MP’s post for granted. It’s time for Tan to step down and retire. He should not be fielded in GE14.
Boonpou: That's right, after GE14 you will have plenty of time to watch TV, whether they are important domestic and global news or those silly Korean and really bad Singaporean programmes.
Tan has no business being a representative of DAP.
Tok Karut: Tan, in this you are no better than ex-Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim. You should apologise to the people who voted for you.
This will be a red mark in your report card for the next GE. I expect DAP to discipline you, no less. Your MP salary should go to charity or a cause in fighting extremism.
Kadir Sulong: Tan must be a weary and tired politician. He should make way to other younger politicians who can contribute to society. He seems to lack interest in his work.
Fairplayer: Hey, Tan is at least honest, and he did show up, but was too late for the Budget vote.
He can't be worse than those who supported the Budget, like the BN MPs. I am surprised that even those who opposed the RM2.6 billion ‘Sapuman’ in Umno voted for the Budget when they seemed to seriously want PM Najib Razak ousted. Their actions don't match their words.
Nonetheless, it is heartening to see Pakatan Harapan MPs - minus Lim Kit Siang and Tan - and the PSM MP as well as three PAS MPs voting against the Budget.
Send in the Clowns: Tan, walk your last mile in your political career with some integrity and dignity. Your poor excuse and priority as a sitting MP was atrocious and shameful.
I gave you the benefit of the doubt, thinking you were sick or was engaged in a life-threatening situation as a medical doctor attending to a patient. My ‘kind’ thought was insulted.
Mantra888: Even though I am a life member of DAP, I strongly disagreed with you, Tan. You should be ashamed for shirking your responsibility. No lame excuse, please.
Justine Gow: If ordinary Malaysians gave such an excuse for not turning up for work on the day Paris was attacked, many of them would have been fired by their bosses.
Malaysians should "sack" him in GE14 if DAP puts him as a candidate.
Pak Wah: Tan is a disgrace to the people who elected him to office. How can he take the Budget vote so lightly?
His excuse is so pathetic and shameful. He showed no commitment nor sense of urgency in his public duty.
Rupert16: Yes, a lame excuse from Tan. Though the Paris terrorist attack was headline news, it was beyond your control while the voting against the nonsensical Budget was within your control.
You let your team down. Period. It would be a better excuse if you were to say that you had a sudden bout of diarrhoea minutes before the voting.
Whatsup: Tan, out you go in the next election. Whatever news you claimed to be watching and whatever you were doing couldn't be as important as performing your duties in Parliament.
This is absolutely unforgivable especially knowing that every vote counts.
Anonymous 2006551440333206: To miss the voting because he was watching TV is a ridiculous excuse.
For a senior MP of more than 30 years in Parliament, I find he is being irresponsible and the DAP must take stern action against him.
Justine Gow: PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang may have "a lot of things to do." But he must not forget his main responsibilities as an MP.
He should give up his Marang seat if he cannot carry out his responsibilities as MP.
If ordinary Malaysians do not turn up for work and tell their bosses that they have a lot of things to do, they would be fired immediately. He deserves to be sacked in GE14 by the people.
Myop101: Why can't Hadi explain it himself? At least, Tan was being honest that he was too taken by news that he forgot his time (whether this reason is acceptable or not is another matter).
He is being honest that he made an unintentional mistake. But for Hadi to not come is simply rubbish, especially for the Budget vote. -Mkini
