Temple of 'ice' housed RM1m worth of drugs

It was a temple like any other, but with one significant difference. The building had also housed a mini lab for processing methamphetamine, which is often referred to as "ice".
Based on a public tip-off, a team from the police's anti-narcotics department raided the temple along the Ipoh-Lumut in Jelapang, Perak.
According to state police chief Hasnan Hassan, the team confiscated RM1.14 million worth of drugs, and detained five men aged between 19 and 46.
"Police found drugs of the methamphetamine type weighing 4kg, and in liquid form weighing 11.9kg as well as apparatuses believed to be used to process the drugs.
"This includes an electronic stove, glass cylinder case, digital weighing machine, electrical cables with switches and plugs as well as gloves," he was quoted as saying by Bernama.
Apart from this, Hasnan said the police also seized five motorcycles, with an estimated value of RM15,000.
The police believe that the drugs confiscated were meant to be distributed in the state and the supply was sufficient for about 40,000 addicts.

As for the suspects, Hasnan said all of them are from Perak, with previous drug-related criminal records.
The suspects have been remanded for seven days since Tuesday to facilitate investigations while the case has been classified under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the mandatory death sentence.
Hasnan also thanked the public for providing information on this matter, and appealed for their continued support in order to eradicate the drug problem in the state. -Mkini
