Any decision to declassify the Auditor-General’s report on state-linked fund 1MDB will only be made by the cabinet, Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chief Hasan Arifin said today.
At a press conference in Parliament, Hasan said the PAC has no say on whether the 1MDB audit report would be declassified from under the Official Secrets Act 1972 or otherwise.
“Whether to declassify (the report) from OSA, the government will decide. Up to the government to decide.
“Up to the cabinet to decide on the 1MDB audit report,” he said.
Asked when the decision is expected to be made, the Rompin MP said: “We will ask the cabinet to decide.”
The 1MDB audit report was presented to the PAC in March after repeated delays.
Auditor-General Ambrin Buang has classified the report as an official government secret, following claims that its interim report tabled to the PAC last July was “leaked” by irresponsible parties.

The 106-page PAC’s probe report on 1MDB was released on April 7.
Hasan, meanwhile, also announced that the PAC will be probing three federal agencies based on findings of the Auditor-General’s Report 2015 released today.
Without elaborating, he said the Immigration Department, National Disaster Management Agency and Sabah Water Department would be made to face the PAC as soon as possible.
“We will call them as soon as possible because we see that, for example, people now are talking about the Immigration Department,” he said. -Mkini
