Armed incursions are not the only threats to Malaysia’s security, warned the prime minister’s wife Rosmah Mansor.
Instead, it can also come in the form of seditious speech that can destabilise the nation.
“As we all know, the threats of today don’t always come in the form of an armed attack, but also includes incitement to cause an unstable environment and affect the harmony in the country.
“Such threats are more serious for multiracial countries like Malaysia. If the people are not united, it would weaken the country’s social structures and expose us to foreign threat and invasions,” she said in a speech at the Defence Ministry's headquarters in Kuala Lumpur this morning.
She told the military personnel present that the task of curtailing this threat should not fall on defence and security personnel alone.
Instead, it also falls on the people, who should unite and defend Malaysia’s sovereignty and harmony.
“With the sacrifice of our soldiers on the frontier and moral support of peace-loving citizens, this would strengthen the country’s defences against its enemies who try to threaten the harmony in our beloved country,” she said.
She expressed gratitude to the military personnel who will not be spending time with their friends and family in the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations, as they put their lives on the line and serve their country.
