YOURSAY | ‘I would be very fearful of hudud if I were Azalina…’
Sebastian44: Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said's explanation that PM Najib Razak edged her on (to bump up the motion to table the Hudud Bill) is no surprise and would have been a logical rationalisation of those who know of the plight of Najib in respect to allegations against him in 1MDB and his dire need for strategies to counter the anticipated anti-Najib sentiments in the forthcoming two by-elections.
The move, while is indicative of a strange coalition with PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, is in a real sense an insidious disregard for the opinions and trust of those in BN who are not of similar faith with Najib.
This electoral strategy to protect and promote selective interest must be a serious let-down to MCA, MIC and Gerakan, and even a betrayal of the informal covenant between the founding fathers of BN/Alliance that religious matters will be dealt with in all civility and caring of all partners in BN and not unilaterally dictated.
Some would argue that the move was unnecessary, even unwise, as Malaysians would still continue to demonstrate a stubbornness to elect BN candidates.
Sphzxcv: So basically, like in 1MDB, the orders and approval must come from the top leader. Thanks for the clarification, Azalina.
Quigonbond: In another words, you just take instructions and don't use your brains. Just like the de facto law minister. Well, actually like all the ministers.
Chiasha: Now all the other BN component parties have shut up. They know their master, Najib, has given the order.
And don't expect any further protest from the BN component parties as they have no balls.
Boonhwa: Azalina claimed she was just moving up the motion, not fast tracking it. It is like the motorist was not speeding, but was just going at 240km an hour in a 110km zone.
Similarly, the killer did not murder the victim; but the victim was hit by the bullet and unfortunately died.
These Umno-BN ministers are not just disrespecting the rakyat, but are just plain stupid if they think that the rakyat are as foolish as their party members.
Sganesan: Azalina, if you have not got the cabinet approval, then what you did is deemed to be wrong. Period. No amount of explanation can make right.
Fulloflife: Moving the motion was a technicality? If this is all that Azalina does as a minister, we are better off with one less.
The cost savings can go to help the homeless in Kuala Lumpur who are dumped in faraway places in a DBKL (City Hall) "out of sight no longer my problem" humanitarian policy.
Kkhp: When caught with her pants (skirts) down, invariably she pointed her finger at others.
Never mind, as a legally qualified person, she should have known better than permit the introduction of any bill that might contravene the Federal Constitution, the supreme law of the land.
With these kinds of political leaders, how the heck can the rakyat expect the nation to maintain it present position in social, economic and human rights development, much less make any real progress at all?
Jeanwyc: I would be very fearful of hudud if I were her, or may I ask if Umno cabinet members and their cronies are exempted from it?
Kshanmuga: In 1965, when local government elections were abolished because political power was passing to the non-Malays who were in the majority at the time of independence in 1957, the non-Malays should have withdrawn from the governing coalition at that time itself.
The hudud law will galvanise and fortify ritualism, proscriptions and injunctions in Islam. It is not good for non-Malays who will have to deal with radicalism and irrationalism after that.
It will also take away freedoms from Malays. Religion will be forced on them.
Kayluan: The public will never know the truth. But the perception is that this is another way to gain populist votes and probably only indicator of their 'success' as the political ruler.
Realities are that crimes are high and not enough jobs to do around. These are the truths. You cannot reduce crimes and increase jobs by cutting off hands.
Mzuhannes: Why would anyone want to vote for PAS? We gave them a state and they still can't even solve basic water, sanitary, flooding and others.
Kelantanese must be suckers for pain. Chopping off hand is what PAS believe the best future for Malaysia.
Shquah: PAS Ulama chief Mahfodz Mohamed, you are blaming Thailand for increased social ills in Kelantan?
But this sort denial syndrome is expected. PAS has been blaming everything except themselves for their weakness and failures.
Quigonbond: In another words, PAS has admitted the bill is intended to bring hudud to Kelantan.
Najib said it is not. Again, he didn't do his homework. Or otherwise he is lying through his teeth again.- Mkini
