IS THE AGONG A 'THIEF'? WE ALL KNOW MO1 IS NAJIB - MUKHRIZ DEMANDS LANGKAWI MP APOLOGIZES TO KING

The temperature rose a few notches in the Kedah state legislative assembly this afternoon when Umno lawmaker Nawawi Ahmad was told to apologise to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong over his royal twist to the Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) saga.

"I urge that the Langkawi MP apologise immediately to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong (Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah).

"Those who disagree (with the demand) are committing treason to (the Sultan of) Kedah," said Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) pro tem treasurer Mukhriz Mahathir in a fiery speech.

Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah is also the sultan of Kedah.

During his speech, which attracted table-thumping and interjections, Muhkriz was told by BN assemblypersons "not to bring political matters" into the House.

To this, he replied: "This is not a political matter. This is about dignity."

In a Facebook comment, which was edited four hours later, Nawawi said based on the Federal Constitution, it is the Yang di-Pertuan Agong who is responsible for the government.

"According to the Federal Constitution, Malaysia's government was formed with three separate and independent entities – the judiciary headed by the chief justice, the legislative led by the parliament speaker, and the executive directed by the prime minister.

"All three entities are responsible to the Agong.

"Hence, according to the constitution, MO1 is the Agong," he explained.

In the edited version, the last line in the comment was replaced with the sentence, "Hence, according to the constitution (Prime Minister) Najib (Abdul Razak) is not MO1, as he is either MO2, MO3, or MO4."

In his comments later, Nawawi said that he was not talking about MO1 in the context of the United States Department of Justice's (DOJ) lawsuit related to 1MDB, but rather in terms of the constitution.

Malaysiakini has contacted Nawawi to get an explanation as to why he edited the comment.

In a media statement issued later, Mukhriz also wanted the Umno MP to apologise to all Malaysians for attempting to "hoodwink" them that Najib is not MO1.

Najib has denied abusing public funds for personal gain. Attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali has also cleared him of any wrongdoing.
