Obama is spot on, but it’s water off a duck’s back for MO1

YOURSAY | ‘True to form, Najib will want to believe those comments were in reference to others.’
RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: Writer Stephen Ng, one need not be a genius to guess who US President Barack Obama was referring to. Without a doubt, he had Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) in mind when he uttered that statement.
Why? Firstly, he mentioned of a government that oppresses the people. This is exactly what is happening to Bersih chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah.
Secondly, why single out Swiss bank accounts? It cannot be a coincidence for him to mention it.
Slumdog: Obama, you hit the nail on the head when you said, “There are limits to our reach in other countries if they are determined to oppress the people, not provide good education, (pause) or siphon off development funds into Swiss bank accounts because their leaders are corrupt...”
We all know that it was directed at MO1. But because of his alleged thick skin, it is like water off a duck’s back.
It won’t stick because MO1 and his supporters will either ignore Obama’s comments or say that as Najib Abdul Razak was not specifically mentioned, it was not aimed at him.
Anonymous 1890491455255851: True to form, Najib will want to believe those comments were in reference to others.
Watch Out: Don't get carried away. Obama’s speech was not meant for his buddies. Indeed, he has contributed nothing to the world.
He could not nip Islamic State (IS) in the bud. What has been his contribution, except sweet talk?
Jaycee: I’m disappointed that Obama did not just mention our PM's name. That would remove all doubts.
Tony Soprano: ‘Watch Out’, Obama is not responsible for your corrupt, second-world state. He has:
1. Led and concluded an international climate pact.
2. Opened diplomatic relations with Cuba after 56 years.
3. Successfully advised and aided Honduras, formerly the most dangerous place on earth after Iraq and Syria, transforming the country into a safer place.
You call that ‘nothing’? Obama is not a king or a dictator. He has to deal with a highly obstructionist congress. Still, domestically, Obama has:
1. Created 14 million jobs.
2. Cut unemployment by more than half, from 10 percent in the George W Bush administration to 4.8 percent currently.
3. Enabled 17 million more Americans to obtain health insurance.
Jaycee, you made a reasonable point, but by the same token Obama would have had to name a lot of despots in the world. I can count 10 or 12 corrupt tyrants in the Middle East alone.
And, according to the United Nations, somewhere between US$800 billion and US$2 trillion is laundered worldwide each year.
Malaysia's contribution is rather small, but worth mentioning as it was so crudely done and some of it within US borders.
Doc: The Star newspaper seems to be portraying Najib as a respected international leader during the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) meeting in Peru.
Bernama reported that Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau came to speak with Najib. And International Monetary Fund (IMF) chief Christine Lagarde praised Najib for his monetary policies for Malaysia despite that the ringgit taking a non-stop beating.
But on the social media, the story is just the opposite. The leader of the free world, Obama, in his speech to the Apec leaders, knowing Najib is around and without mincing his words, directly referred to the corrupt “who siphon off development funds into Swiss bank accounts”.
Another photo circulating is where all the Apec leaders are huddling to chat with each other but Najib is standing in one corner alone.
So, what do we make Najib to be "an international leader of repute" or the opposite? I think the general Malaysian opinion has already been made of PM Najib.
WTFcuk: What choice has he got? Imagine the embarrassment of facing world leaders knowing that they know you are allegedly crooked and kept in power by allegedly crooked followers.
In a nation of helpless people. Because the moment he steps down, he would be as arrested and prosecuted together with accomplices. He had the chance to be great but he allegedly chose to be greedy.
NNFC: So, it is now up to Umno. Do they want to cut ties with the US, and pretty much from the rest of the free world? Or do they want to start thinking like a responsible government, and prosecute the guilty?
Hopeless: We must have almost hit the bottom of the barrel when we hope that president-elect Donald Trump, of all people, would save us from this mess.
Anonyxyz: Trump could be a good friend of MO1. After all, his campaign style of steaming racist rhetoric to rouse the majority whites is quite similar to MO1's style, too.
The only difference is the majority race.
Hplooi: Umno PhDs will of course assert that “Obama is referring to the tooth fairy, not MO1”. For emphasis, anyone who so much as disagree with this 'official' view will be marched off under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).
Inworldnotof: Of course, Obama is calling him out. And of course he and his coterie will say he did not say his name like in the US Department of Justice (DOJ) announcements, so it is all right by their shameless standards of a deadened conscience that is impenetrably hard and thick with calluses after so many evil deeds with impunity, he and she and they flinch not.

Trump says you take care of your own country. We shall do what only we as Malaysian rakyat can and must do at the ballot box.
Kneazle: MO1 also has a one-liner, ‘Buat tak tahu’.- Mkini
