PKR man's Toyota Vios torched at meet-the-people session

A Malacca PKR leader's Toyota Vios was torched late Saturday in Kampung Krubong there, while he and a group of PKR and Bersatu leaders met with villagers.
"I suspect this is arson," Mohd Nasir Mamat said in his police report.
He told Malaysiakini that the car was torched at about 11.50pm, about 30 minutes after the group arrived to meet with locals at a coffee shop.
They planned to invite the locals to a ceramah organised at the village on Nov 26, featuring Bersatu chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad and president Muhyiddin Yassin.
"It is customary to do so when we're entering other people's village," Mohd Nasir said when contacted.
There were about 40 locals at the coffee shop when the PKR and Bersatu group arrived, he said.
None of the other cars driven by PKR and Bersatu activists were damaged as they managed to move their vehicles the moment someone noticed the Toyota Vios was alight.
The villagers tried to help put out the fire by splashing water, he said.
The fire was finally snuffed by the Fire and Rescue Department but the car was a write-off.
"It was a 2014 make car, but what can I do? It is fated...
"But this has steeled my resolve to continue with the Nov 26 event," Mohd Nasir said.
Also there on Saturday night was Bersatu supreme council member Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen who claimed to have receive threats from a local Umno leader discouraging him from entering the village.
The former Umno Youth leader claimed a motorcyclist had splashed petrol on the Toyota Vios before setting it alight.

"I believe the incident is related to the threats against me," Mohd Rafiq said in a statement.
"This is the desperate and thuggish ways of Umno leaders today."
He also stressed that the Nov 26 programme will go on as planned.
However, Krubong Tengah Umno branch chief Rami Mat Sit lodged a police report against Mohd Rafiq denying the threat claim.
Ramli also lodged another report so that the police would bar the Nov 26 ceramah to avoid untoward events.- Mkini
