Zuraida files defamation suit against Jamal over Ampang scuffle

PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamarudin today filed a defamation suit against red-shirts leader Jamal Md Yunos over the scuffle that left Jamal with a bloody nose in Ampang last Sunday.
This comes after Jamal said "Zuraida's boys" hit him and that the MP instructed them to do so at the Ampang Point shopping mall.
"This is not true and against the law," Zuraida's lawyer N Surendran told reporters after filing the lawsuit at the High Court in Kuala Lumpur today.
Zuraida is seeking general and aggravated damages, as well as an injunction to stop Jamal from repeating the defamatory claims.
video recording of the incident shows Jamal yelling "police tumbuk saya" (police punched me) but he later denied saying so.
Jamal also lodged a police report blaming Zuraida and her followers.
Zuraida has also lodged a police report over last Saturday's incident, claiming that three of her followers were injured.
The red-shirts had pursued PKR activists who were dressed Bersih T-shirts to promote the Nov 19 rally.
Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said police would take action against Jamal if it is found that he lodged a fake police report.

Zuraida also urged action against Jamal, who is also Sungai Besar Umno division chief, for allegedly endangering the public.
"He acts as if this country has no law and he is not civilised. So let this be a lesson for him.
"He should stop acting in this rogue and uncivilised way. I hope this case will tame him and that the IGP can take action," she told reporters today. -Mkini
