IGP: Terror attack planned during Saudi king's visit thwarted

Police foiled an attempt by Islamic State (IS) operatives in the country to carry out an attack during a visit by Saudi King Salman Abdulaziz Al-Saud to Kuala Lumpur last week.
Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said the seven suspects - four Yemenis, an Indonesian and two locals - were arrested between Feb 21 and 26 by Bukit Aman Special Branch's Counter-Terrorism division.
According to Khalid, the men were planning to attack the Arab royalty and his entourage in the city.
"Thank God, we managed to nab them in the nick of time," he said, adding that the militants were "not even close" to the delegation when they were captured.
Queried on how the police managed the arrests, Khalid asked: "How can we reveal that to you?".
Speaking to a press conference in Penang, Khalid also revealed that the suspects were involved in the drugs trade and forgery of travel documents.

The top cop is in Penang to attend a two-day conference of the Far East Regional Working Group, during the 34th International Drug Enforcement Conference at the Equatorial Hotel in Penang.
The Saudi king and his delegation were in Malaysia for four days beginning Feb 26.
Two of the Yemenis were unemployed, while the other two were a chef and a private university student, respectively. - Mkini
