Mustapa wants 11 Malaysians in N Korea to be given good treatment

International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamed wants the 11 Malaysians banned from leaving North Korea to be given good treatment in line with international laws.
"We expect this to happen and this is not something surprising and we hope if there are some who are stranded, they will be given good treatment in line with international laws.
"However we leave the matter to Wisma Putra for the next course of action," he said.
He told reporters this after attending the opening of the Rohm-Wako Electronics (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd's new factory at Pengakalan Chepa II industrial area in Kota Baru today.

The government today took action to prohibit North Korean embassy officials and staff from leaving Malaysia following North Korea's ban on 11 Malaysians to leave that country.
Prior to this, Kuala Lumpur expelled North Korea's ambassador to Malaysia and Pyongyang retaliated by taking the same action against the Malaysian envoy there.
Meawhile Deputy Foreign Minister Reezal Merican Naina Merican was reported to have said 11 Malaysians, including participants of the United Nations World Food Programme, three officials and staff of the Malaysian embassy and their six family members in North Korea were safe.
