Najib launches kit to promote ‘wasatiyyah’ approach

Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak today launched the ‘Wasatiyyah Kit’ to popularise the development of wasatiyyah or moderation in the community.
The kit was launched at a brief ceremony in Parliament House in Kuala Lumpur in conjunction with the meeting of the National Wasatiyyah Policy Implementation Committee at the national level held earlier.
The kit consists of five books including the National Wasatiyyah book which would be the main source of reference in implementing the National Wasatiyyah Policy to the community.
According to a statement issued by the Wasatiyyah Institute of Malaysia, the book ‘National Wasatiyyah Policy’ also focused on six strategic fields namely education and the youth; economy and development; politics and nationhood, security and defence; law and administration; and social and solidarity.
In addition to the book, the kit also contained a book that compiled the prime minister’s speeches on wasatiyyah, besides books pertaining to the wasatiyyah approach.
“It is hoped that the wasatiyyah policy will become the catalyst to all our efforts to expand understanding on the wasatiyyah approach to the whole community,” the statement said.
Earlier, the prime minister chaired a meeting of the National Wasatiyyah Policy Implementation Committee at the national level.

The meeting was held to discuss the importance of facing current and future challenges due to the various issues that cropped up that could jeopardise national stability and harmony.
“The environmental analysis and current challenges involved solidarity and national integration, the widening threat of extremist and liberal thinking, negative perception and publicity on Islam and finally the exploitation of knowledge,” the statement said.
The meeting was also attended by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom.
