Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak has expressed his gratitude to Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud for increasing Malaysia’s haj quota this year.
“Praise be to Allah, beginning this year, the quota for Malaysian haj pilgrims has been increased to 30,200.
“Thank you King Salman and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. By granting this, more Muslims from Malaysia will be able to perform the 5th pillar of Islam, Insya-Allah,” Najib wrote in a post on his Facebook today.
Earlier, in the Dewan Rakyat today, Pilgrims’ Fund (TH) chairperson Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim had announced that Malaysia’s haj quota this year has been increased to 30,200 from 27,900 pilgrims.
The increase, he said, was achieved following discussions between King Salman and the prime minister during the Saudi King’s working visit to Malaysia recently.
In January, Malaysia’s haj quota was maintained at 27,900 pilgrims compared to 22,230 since 2013.
