Pandikar to propose time limit for Parliament Q&A

PARLIAMENT Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia says there is a need to introduce time limits for the oral question-and-answer session in the House.
"If ministers answer like this, we will need to limit the time. Same goes for additional questions.
"I see some MPs not following the standing orders. Even though I or my deputies don't reprimand you, it does not mean you can speak as you wish," Pandikar told Parliament today.
He said that he would bring this up to the Parliament Standing Orders Committee, to amend the House rules and implement the time limit.
Pandikar had raised the matter just as Deputy Higher Education Minioster Mary Yap was about to answer an additional question from Ahmad Hamzah (BN-Jasin) about the National Higher Education Fund (PTPTN).
It is not clear what prompted Pandikar to raise the matter, but Yap and Hamzah had been on the floor for over 10 minutes at the time.
Currently there is no time limit on oral questions and answers, only for Minister's Question Time.
The oral answers session last for 1 hour 30 minutes each Parliament sitting, with any unanswered questions being adddressed in a written reply.- Mkini
