Communication and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak has expressed concern over the abduction of pastor Raymond Koh, and urged all quarters not to jump to conclusions.
He said the police are doing their best to trace the whereabouts of the pastor, who has been missing since Feb 13, based on the leads available.
Salleh pointed out that when it involved abduction cases, the police must exercise caution in order to protect the victim, therefore not all details related to the investigation can be made public.
On the same note, the minister urged the police to solve this case as soon as possible.
"I can sympathise with the despair and frustration that his loved ones and friends are feeling. But we cannot allow anger to cloud our judgement.
"I have seen numerous messages and claims circulating linking this case to religious differences even before the police have established a motive.
"We cannot allow our emotions to get the better of us. I am sure that as a person dedicated to the service of God, pastor Koh himself would not want us to sow the seeds of religious animosity in his name," he told Malaysiakini.
Don't spread rumours
Salleh also admonished those responsible for circulating a message claiming that the pastor was killed and the police have recovered his mutilated remains.
"Imagine the grief of his loved ones upon reading such a message?" he said.
"Imagine what harm it can do this nation, when people believe such messages to be true? So please, let us not make the situation worse. Let us pray for the pastor's safe return instead," he added.
Whatever the motive, Salleh said the perpetrators must be brought to justice.
Earlier, Petaling Jaya district police chief Mohd Zani Che Din dismissed the rumour of the pastor having been killed which was spread via text messaging app Whatsapp.
Based on CCVT footage, Koh was abducted by a group of masked men in Petaling Jaya, who had used their vehicles to block his Honda Accord.- Mkini
