Kelantan PKR leaders at odds over resigning from PAS-led gov't

Kelantan PKR today sent confused signals with regard to its position in the PAS-led Kelantan government after its state chief and state information chief issued contradictory statements.
Kelantan PKR information chief Mohammad Azihan Che Seman, in a statement today, said the state leadership had in a meeting on June 5 agreed to comply with the central leadership's directive to resign from positions in the PAS-led Kelantan government.
He added that the directive came into effect on July 31 and announced a list of PKR local councillors in Kelantan who will resign effective today or decline to be sworn in.
"The decision is to carry out our responsibility as a party member that abides by the PKR central leadership's instructions," he said.
However, Kelantan PKR chairperson Ab Aziz Ab Kadir when contacted said he was in the dark about the statement.
"I have scolded him this morning. He is a leader, he should not have issued a statement (before) discussing," he told Malaysiakini.
Aziz stressed that no decision had been made with regard to the status of PKR leaders in the Kelantan government.
Meanwhile, Azihan when asked to clarify his statement and respond to his boss, said he was only informing the public about the status of the situation.
"I did not inform the state leadership as according to my understanding, the state chief should be better informed," he said.
He added that the single resignation by a PKR local councillor and six more declining to be sworn in, which he announced in the statement, was not the complete list.

Meanwhile, when contacted, PKR supreme council member Johari Abdul said the party's stance is for PKR leaders to resign from the Kelantan government.
"It's just that they (Kelantan PKR) have asked for a postponement for the decision to be carried out by Aug 31 due to technical problems," he said.
The PKR political bureau had on May 16 instructed its leaders to resign from the Kelantan government in response to PAS formally severing ties with PKR. - Mkini
