My back, knees are strong – PM refutes 'can't sit cross-legged' talk

Prime Minister Najib Abdul has refuted talk that he is unable to sit cross-legged during an event in Permatang Pauh, Penang, this morning.
The 64-year-old premier also joked about still being strong enough to take on opponents in a fight.
"I do not have back pain, my back is strong and my knees are also strong.
“'Siapa nak lawanmaisaya tak takut' (Who wants to fight, come on, I am not afraid),” he said to cheers and applause from the crowd.
Earlier, Permatang Pauh Umno division chief Mohd Zaidi Mohd Said revealed that prior to the event, some had expressed concern as to whether Najib would be able to sit cross-legged on the floor as he might suffer from back pain.
“When I asked them who told them this (Najib has back pain), they (those who expressed concern) said they were just wondering if it would be difficult for Najib to do so.
“I told them that if they are just wondering about it, then the programme would go ahead as planned. But if it is true (Najib has back pain), we won't do it,” he added.
The prime minister had joined more than 20,000 participants to set the national record for the highest number of people eating while sitting cross-legged (dudukbersila).
Zaidi also said he was worried about rain ruining the event.
"But it did not rain in Permatang Pauh since yesterday, this is a good sign and a blessing from Allah as our beloved prime minister is visiting us today," he added.

This is Najib's first visit to Permatang Pauh, the parliamentary stronghold of jailed former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim, since becoming prime minister in 2009.
This morning, Najib met with state BN leaders for an hour in Seberang Jaya.
He is slated to tour an affordable housing project by a Finance Ministry company in Sungai Dua.
The prime minister will also launch the Northern Corridor Economic Region (NCER) Blueprint 2016 - 2025 where 80 projects are lined up to benefit the northern region. - Mkini
