Najib jokes about flying chairs, reminds Permatang Pauh of 'great pharaoh'

Speaking at Anwar Ibrahim's stronghold of Permatang Pauh, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak said Pakatan Harapan has a “zalim” (cruel) chairperson, who was once likened to a “ maha firaun” (great pharaoh).
Though he did not mention names, these were the terms used to describe Dr Mahathir Mohamad during the Reformasi era, after he sacked Anwar as deputy prime minister in 1998.
Najib also pointed out that the person he is talking about reneged on a decision made 18 years ago.
He said elders, including his late father, second prime minister Abdul Razak Hussein, had told him that politicians must be sincere.
"Don't say one thing now and another tomorrow. Who made the U-turn?" he asked, laughing.
Referring to his target as “orang itu” (that person), the prime minister said there was no need to mention names as the people know who he was talking about.
"That is why so many chairs flew that day. Thank God, no chairs flew today," he joked.
On Sunday, chairs and slippers were thrown in the direction of Mahathir, during the Nothing to Hide 2.0 forum in Shah Alam.
The ruckus erupted as Mahathir was responding to a question on the 1985 Memali incident in Kedah.
Since embarking on a campaign against Najib and quitting Umno, Mahathir has patched up with Anwar and the two have agreed to a political collaboration.
However, their critics have never failed to remind the pair of the insults they traded in the past, especially with Mahathir claiming that Anwar was morally unfit to lead the nation.

Anwar is currently serving a five-year prison sentence for a sodomy conviction, which he claims was fabricated, similarly to the first sodomy charge against him when Mahathir was prime minister.
Anwar was the former MP for Permatang Pauh. The seat is currently held by his wife and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
